Questions

Where is my data?

On your phone, in the app's private storage, with iOS Data Protection switched on. Damla has no servers of its own, so we never receive your accounts, balances or transactions.

Face ID and passcode

Damla asks for Face ID or your passcode when you open it, and again after it has been away for the time you choose in Settings. Your face data never leaves iOS; the app only learns that the check passed.

Backup and restore

Damla can save an encrypted backup file to a folder you choose in the Files app, which can be on your phone, in iCloud Drive or on another device. The passphrase is kept in your phone's Keychain. It backs up automatically at most once a day and keeps the last seven. Settings shows when the last backup happened, and the Today screen tells you if it is overdue.

Restore. In Settings, open the backup section, choose the file and enter the passphrase. If you lose the passphrase, the file cannot be opened, so keep a note of it somewhere safe.

Export or delete my data

You can export your transactions as a spreadsheet (CSV) from Settings. To delete everything, delete the app: its data is removed from your phone. Backup files you saved are separate copies, so delete them in the Files app if you no longer want them. Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing on our side to delete.

What does it look up online?

Almost nothing, and only the following. Damla works fully offline.

  • Exchange rates, at most once a day. Only currency codes are sent.
  • Prices for holdings you choose to track. This is off by default. Only the ticker symbols are sent, at most once a day.
  • A bank logo, only when you tap “Find logo online”. The bank name you searched for is sent to Wikimedia Commons.

Like any web request, these services can see your IP address. Nothing about your own accounts or amounts is sent.

Do I need Apple Intelligence?

No. Typing a sentence such as a payment on an instalment plan uses the language model built into your iPhone when your device and settings support it, and it runs entirely on the phone. Without it, Damla falls back to a simpler reader and to forms, so everything still works.

Importing a bank statement

Choose a PDF or CSV statement from Files. Damla reads it on your phone, never uploads it, and shows what it found for you to check before anything is added. It checks that the amounts add up to the statement balance and flags anything that does not.

How to report a problem

Email and include:

  • what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
  • the Damla version and your iOS version
  • your iPhone model
  • a screenshot, only if it does not show anything private
Is this financial advice?

No. Damla gives information and estimates from the numbers you enter. It is not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and it does not know your full situation. For important decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
